Welcoming Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Vice-Provost, Indigenous

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Mohawk Nation (Haudenosaunee), Bear Clan from the Six Nations Grand River Territory to McMaster as the inaugural Vice-Provost, Indigenous.
Dr. Jacobs arrives from the University of Windsor, where she was senior advisor to the president on Indigenous Relations and Outreach. She was an associate professor in the Faculty of Law and previously served as Acting Dean and Associate Dean (Academic) in Windsor Law.
Beverly is an internationally recognized and respected scholar, advocate and leader and is a member of the Order of Canada. She is the former president of the Native Women’s Association of Canada and was instrumental in advocating for the national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.
The Vice-Provost, Indigenous reports to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and sits as a member of Provost Council. The role of Vice Provost, Indigenous also has a collective accountability to the Indigenous Education Council.
Strongly rooted in relationships and community, she will be busy in the coming weeks connecting with people on and off campus.
McMaster is fortunate to have Dr. Beverly Jacobs in this role that signifies McMaster’s commitment to advancing academic excellence through diverse perspectives and leadership.
